Nancy Graham - Impressionist artist

Welcome to Nancy Graham Online Art Gallery

Nancy Graham is an Impressionist painter in the rich tradition of the Cape Cod School of Art located in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Begun in 1899 by Charles Hawthorne who having studied the techniques of Monet and the French Impressionists, fell under the spell of the unique quality of the light and the pleasant ambiance of that little fishing village located at the tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown rapidly became an art colony as established artists and novices flocked to Hawthorne’s demonstrations and classes on the dunes, beaches and piers to learn how to capture the light as it illuminates all it touches under all weather conditions and at all times of day and night. The Cape Cod School of Art became THE school for American Impressionists.

Charles Hawthorne’s main protégé Henry Hensche, continued the great tradition of the Cap Cod School of Art translating Hawthorne’s lessons into a codified progression of steps to enable students to learn how to see and paint color under all different lighting conditions. Hensche ‘s influence on students throughout the United States remains profound to this day. Nancy Graham considers herself to be extremely fortunate to be able to continue the tradition of American Impressionism through her study with several of his most outstanding protégés, including Hilda Neily and Robert Longley.

Nancy Graham is an emerging artist who has exhibited in Provincetown and Brewster, Massachusetts, and in Delray Beach and Boca Raton, Florida. Her work is in private collections throughout the United States and abroad.
